The registration gate comes first
Before you can register for NUR-4430 Public Health Nursing, TESU requires evidence of a valid RN licence and malpractice insurance. That is a registration condition, not a formality you settle later, and it sits ahead of everything else in your timeline.
The reason this matters for placement is sequencing. A site will not hold a slot indefinitely while your paperwork catches up, and the term calendar does not move. Students who treat compliance as an administrative afterthought lose the placement they had already secured.
The compliance file a site will ask for
TESU's published clinical compliance requirements include, but are not limited to, a drug screen, proof of immunity or immunisation for vaccine-preventable diseases, professional liability insurance and major medical health insurance coverage. Clinical partners have also required full vaccination, and TESU has stated it cannot guarantee appropriate clinical placement where a student cannot show proof at least 30 days before clinical activities begin.
Read that last clause carefully
The university's own language is that it cannot guarantee placement when compliance is late. That is the single most consequential sentence in the process, and it means the file should be complete well before you are hunting for a site, not alongside it.
Public health work is its own kind of search
A public health nursing placement is not a clinical rotation in a practice. The work is population-level, so the settings that fit are health departments, community and public health programmes, school health services, and outreach or prevention initiatives. These organisations run small teams, take few students, and are frequently already committed to a local nursing programme.
That combination, a narrow set of qualifying settings plus a hard compliance deadline, is what makes this placement harder than its credit count suggests.
What to confirm with TESU before you commit
Course requirements vary and change. Confirm with the W. Cary Edwards School of Nursing and Health Professions what the current clinical component requires, who is accepted as a supervising nurse, how many hours the course carries, and whether your intended setting qualifies. We will not tell you a requirement the university has not published, and neither should anyone else.
